Légy otthon a konyhában
2021-1-HU01-ESC30-SOL-000036084
The aim of the project:
Our settlement is a small disadvantaged village in the Nagykálló district, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county. There are many unemployed people and people living in difficult economic conditions in the settlement and the surrounding farms. Most families live month to month and it is difficult to finance their children's university education. Many students are able to go to university thanks to the Arany János Talent Support Programme. Therefore, it is very important that children and students are prepared for their university years and for starting independent lives, and for separating from their families. We wanted to help children, students and young people in the municipality to do this. Most of the members of our group are college students. We feel how important it is to be self-sufficient in order to start an independent life, to start university years. Some of us are already spending our university years away from the family home and have experienced how difficult it is to look after ourselves while studying. It's hard to manage the pocket money we get from home so that it lasts for 1 month and we can always live well on it. So we thought how nice it would be if we could be at home in the kitchen and make simple, cheap, good meals for ourselves. Home-cooked meals are more hearty, healthier and, not least, cheaper than fast food. That's why we thought of starting a session in our municipality where children and young people can learn to prepare for independent living and learn to prepare simple meals together with us. We organised a cooking workshop where we cooked a simple meal together every week using local ingredients and compiled a recipe book. In this way, we contributed to the development of the skills needed for young people and children to start independent lives. This way, when they get to the point where they are working, in a hostel, or avoiding university, living in a dormitory or renting, they will be able to prepare a good meal for themselves and learn to manage their pocket money. To do this, each week we would go shopping together for a recipe of our choice, calculate how much it would cost to prepare a meal for 1-2 people, and then prepare, cook, serve and eat the meal together. We then posted the recipes on our social networking site. This was our way of helping children and young people in our community to leave their families and start their own lives. It would have been good for us too if someone had taught us these things, but now we have learnt a lot together.
Activities:
Once the team was assembled, we brainstormed a lot about what recipes to include in the workshop. Since there are families of Roma origin in the municipality and many families who have moved from Ukraine, we included these national dishes. The location was agreed with the head of the association. The association has a kitchen that we could use for cooking. We checked what kitchen equipment we had and if we needed to purchase any more. We put together a cooking workshop theme and a list of dishes with the help of the coach. In the first month, we consulted with the association's management and discussed possible groups to organise. Each week we held a cooking workshop one day in the afternoon, which was very popular. Each week we learned to prepare a different dish. On 2 occasions we organised a community cooking session where the participants would demonstrate some of the dishes they had learnt and we also held a public food tasting. We ate the prepared food together, but for this we set the table and ate the shared food in a peaceful and friendly atmosphere.
Results:
- The project has taught the children and young people involved how to prepare basic meals.
- They learned to calculate the cost of a meal for 1-2 people.
- They learned to be self-sufficient.
- They learned to manage their pocket money properly.
- They learned how much more economical it is to cook for themselves than to order expensive food from fast food restaurants.
- They learned to prepare healthy meals.
- They learned about local producers, local produce and how much healthier it is to use locally grown food ingredients.
- Cooking together has created a tight-knit community of people who continue to cook after the project.
- The recipes for the dishes learned in the cooking workshop have been published and can be used by others.
- The dishes learnt have been prepared and tried at home and with friends, thus having an impact on families.
- These young people find it easier to start their own lives, to leave their parents and to find a place in colleges, rented accommodation or work hostels.
- They pay more attention to the food they eat and the ingredients they use.
- They are more aware of the daily prices at the shops and manage their financial resources more efficiently.

Solidarity projectünk keretében (Légy otthon a konyhában - 2021-1-HU01-ESC30-SOL-000036084) bodza szörp készült és a saját termésű hagymával zsíroskenyér partit rendeztünk.
Főzőcske műhelyünk keretében tovább folytatótnak a közös főzések. Legutóbbi tudósításunk óta rakott krumpli, mafin és gofri készült. A képek magukért beszélnek.
- 25 dkg liszt
- 1/4 teáskanál sütőpor
- 1/2 teáskanál só
- 2 db tojás
- 20 dgk cukor
- 1/2 dl olaj

Légy otthon a konyhában című Szolidaritási projectünk keretében 2022.03.31-én gofrit sütöttek.
